Apple Crisps Dehydrated Natural Goodies
Fruit can be preserved in many ways. You can freeze it; make Marmalade, Jam or Sirup. To add to your useful tools collection we also recommend that you check out this pressure canner - which makes a big difference when you preserve fruits.
You can also dry fruit, which is my absolute preferred way, as you don't need any added sugar.
To keep the natural goodness in terms of taste and nutritional value - food dehydration is the way forward. I was a bit sceptic at first - but after a minimal investment in a good that I found on , I have saved so much money.
Tomatoes, Peaches, Carrots, Bananas, Strawberries, Figs, Pumpkins, Pears and Apples - have all come out tasting more intense, and added summer into dishes throughout the year. If you haven't tried dehydrating fruit and vegetables before - Do! Worth every cent, and time spent.
Apple Crisps Recipe
Apples are perfect to dehydrate and the recipe below - all natural, no sugar added - came out so well. Apple Crisps are a perfect snack, and also an elegant end to a dinner party together with some blue cheese - or dark chocolate, why not? They keep for months - and can be added to your breakfast Granola as a good start to your day.
Find a nice apple tree, or buy some from your local market. Pick the most green / red crisp ones - like Gala or Stark, as they are better suited for dehydration. Yellow mealy ones like Golden Delicious work better cooked or baked.
Take out your , and place the Apple Slices on the trays. Check out the recipe for how to soak the slices, and what to add. Turn the machine on, and leave it for as long ( approx. 5 - 8 hours) as it takes to get turn the Apple slices into crisp, cinnamon coated snack bits that you cannot help but get addicted to. Natural raw food goodie that tastes almost better than Mother Nature intended 🙂

3TablespoonsApple Cider Vinegar

Instructions
Apple Preparation
Make sure to have a clean surface to work on. You can spray it with vinegar to avoid any bacteria clinging on to the fruit.
Add Apple Cider Vinegar and Lemon Juice into a bowl and set aside for your Apple Slices later.
Rinse your Apples.
Slice the Apples as thinly as you can.
Add the Apple Slices to your Vinegar / Lemon Juice mix, and turn them around gently so them all get coated. This will help the Apples not to turn brown, and adds tang to the final dried Apple Crisps too.
Add cinnamon in and coat them as you turn them around in the bowl.
Dehydration
Add the Apple Slices to your Dehydrator Trays (see picture above).
Set temperature to approx. 60 degrees and walk away.
After approx. 2 hours place the bottom tray on the top, and flip them all around so you get an even drying process going. You can keep doing this every hour or so.
After 5 hours you should have dried, crispy apples that 'snap' when you break them. If they are still bit soft, and that is how you like them - great! BUT - otherwise continue the dehydration process for another hour and check again.
Notes
The dehydration time depends on the make of your Dehydrator - normally it takes about 5 hours, but can take as long as 8. In that case you can always leave the machine overnight on the lowest temp setting. The end is worth the wait though! These Apple Crisps have become a kids snack favourite, as well as grown-ups after dinner treat with blue cheese - or dark chocolate. Enjoy!
