The Body Machine illustrated by a man with mechanical insidesThe body machine that goes on forever – that keeps going, going and going. No matter what we do to it, we fill it up, honk the horn and go on. Right?!

That illusion soon goes out the window when a flu hits, relationships break, or work takes it toll. The body machine starts to protest. Signs of wear and tear becomes visible inside and out.

The Body machine – Do you treat your body like a car?

Lifestyle change is to recalibrate, fuel up, fine tune and maintain for optimal endurance and output. It sounds like a car, doesn’t it?   The question is: Do you treat your body as if it is a rented piece of kit that you have for a short while  – Or  – like a car you proudly own, and want to keep for a long, long time?Happy car washing his back in a tub to illustrate lifestyle changes If we own the car, we maintain and service it. We keep it in tip-top shape. With preventive care breakdowns are rare, and the car keeps going for years. Do we treat our bodies in the same way? The car metaphor is understandable.  An engine is a complex piece of machinery, that requires expertise to build and maintain. Most of us have a trusted mechanic who knows the ins and outs of the engine. I have often thought that I would want to learn more about the insides of the engine, so that I could fix and maintain the car myself. I even got a book about car mechanics some years back – but time, pressures and all other good excuses stopped me. A bit like having all the good intentions with lifestyle changes, and then the excuses get in the way? The body machine - do you treat your body like a car? illustrated by broken down car The body and mind are much the same – a complicated set of interconnected systems – ‘engines’ – that takes time, energy and understanding to get to grips with.

The Body that keeps on going?

Do you treat you body like you treat your car? Do you service, maintain, ensure correct oil mix and tire pressure? Or – do you let it continue until it breaks down and you have to visit the Doctor? What if it’s then too late? Did you wait too long? Can you do something about it now? YES – you can!

The Body machine – Prevention, care and maintenance

Body and mind needs care and attention to function well. If you are one of the few that have been ‘good’ all your life – that is wonderful. Most of us however, realise after years of ‘bad maintenance’ that we need an injection, a change. Lifestyle change was the recipe for me – and I hope for you too.

  • Lifestyle changes – if you choose to take them on –  prevent break-downs, fuel and feed you with good nutritious food, oxygen, mindfulness and plenty of water.
  • Lifestyle changes help our body systems to function at their optimum levels.  The reward is full-on energy, health and rejuvenation. A visible difference inside and out. A balanced and healthy life.

Only thing is that many of us simply don’t understand, or give ourselves time, to give body and mind a chance to reach that balanced level. As a result, the body and/or mind fights back.lifestyle and health are linked as illustrated by the man slipping down an arrow because he does not look after himself.

Taking a decision to change is the first step towards feeling good again. Getting motivated and encouraged as you walk along is essential. To get started it really helps to understand more about the basics.
